A ritual performance unfolding at the threshold between tradition and technology, the sacred and the profane.
Under a tree adorned with prayer cloths — a site of ancestral presence — ribbons and a trailing electric cord are woven into the performer’s hair. The cord is plugged in.
The work moves between Butoh and ritual practice. Ancestral gestures meet electricity, media, and contemporary spectacle, entering into tension rather than resolution.
The Ancestral Tree is a gesture of connection and a provocation: a meditation on lineage, transmission, and what is transformed when inherited practices are carried into the present moment.
